Challenge Charter Middle School is a free public school open to all New York City residents.

How do I apply to Challenge Prep/Challenge Middle School?
Simply download and complete the 2017-18 Lottery Application. The application is available also online in multiple languages at: 2017-18 Online Lottery Application. Challenge Prep Charter school applicants do not have to take tests to get in and you can apply to more than one school at a time.

Is the lottery system fair?
Yes. Students are selected through a random lottery which will be held at our K-5 school, Challenge Preparatory at 710 Hartman Lane on Thursday April 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Open House Events?

CCMS MORNING & EVENING Open House Events for the 2017-18 School Year will be held mornings from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM and from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, Wednesday February 15, 2017, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, and Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Scholar Admission FAQs

Do current scholars of CPCS or CCMS need to reapply?

No, it is not necessary for current scholars to apply.

What classes will CCMS be offering in 2017-18 school year?

6th, 7th, 8th grades.

Can I fill out one application for all of my children?

No. Every child needs a separate application.

What age do you have to be to start K?

A child must be five (5) years old by December 31, 2017 to begin Kindergarten.

When is the application deadline?

The application deadline for the 2017-2018 school year is Friday, March 31, 2017 at 5:00PM.

How do you determine admission?

Admission is by a fair and random lottery.  By NYS law, Challenge must give preference to the scholars living in the community school district #27.  We also have a sibling policy where we give preference to siblings of current scholars.

Is there an application fee?


Does it cost anything to attend Challenge Prep/Challenge Middle School?

No. Our schools are public schools, so there is no required tuition--it is free.

Does CPCS offer Special Education Services?


If my child is an English Language Learner, are they allowed to apply?


I was on the wait list last year, do I go before everyone who applies this year?

No.  Applications do not carry over from year to year.  If you applied last year and did not get in, you must apply again this year and your application will go in the lottery.

I have a child attending CCMS and/or CPCS.  Do I need to fill out an application for a younger sibling?

Yes. We require an application for every student.

When will we find out the results?

The date for the 2017-18 Challenge Charter Schools lottery is Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM.  If you submitted an application, you will get an invitation to the lottery by this date.  Please check your email and voicemail regularly for updates on waiting list information.

What happens if I didn't send in my application on time?

Late applications are placed on the waiting list in the order received.  This waiting list is used AFTER the lottery waiting list has been exhausted.
