Rev. Dr. Les Mullings announced today that Mrs. Tameeka Richards has been named the Executive Director of Expansion for Challenge Charter Schools effective April 19, 2017.
Mrs. Richards has been serving as the Interim 6-8 Principal for Challenge since October 27, 2016.
As the Executive Director of Expansion, Mrs. Richards will work as a part of the Challenge Expansion Team. The immediate expansion efforts include the adding of three additional Kindergarten classes at the existing K-5 school projected for the 2018-19 school year, the development of the Challenge P-Tech High School projected to open in August 2020, and two additional K-8 charter schools planned for the fall of 2021 and 2022.
Richards’ journey to Challenge Prep began when she started teaching in self-contained Special Education classrooms. After teaching, she decided to pursue a Master’s degree in School Counseling and became a school counselor at Challenge Preparatory in 2010. While a school counselor, she brought a host of programs to the new school. In 2013, Richards was chosen as the Assistant Principal of Operations.
In this role, Richards organized the lottery, enrolled an energetic bunch of kindergarteners, sustained the positive school culture, and coordinated accountability practices that assisted the school with continuing to offer the parents and our scholars a high level of professionalism. Richards also played a major role in preparing the new Challenge Middle School with equipment, furniture, transportation, a welcoming office staff, and snack and lunch programs.
Richards graduated from Alfred University with a Master’s degree in School Counseling and earned her Educational Leadership degree from the College of Saint Rose in 2012. She continued her education at Concordia University to pursue a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. This year she received a certificate in New and Aspiring Leadership from Harvard University.
"As Challenge Preparatory Charter School grows, I am committed to continue to work towards the mission of the school, and I am ecstatic to be a part of the continued growth and success of the network." stated Richards.
Dr. Mullings said of the assignment, "I am pleased that Mrs. Richards will join our Challenge Expansion Team. She has poured herself into our schools, and she brings to her assignment our history of serving the needs of the families and scholars in the Rockaways."
